A turquoise lake at 2,500 meters in the Trans-Ili Alatau mountains

Since March 2020, access to the Big Almaty Lake by private vehicles has been closed indefinitely. Currently, tourists can only reach the lake on foot. But if you're planning to visit between May and October, it's possible to rent motorcycles and quad bikes.
Perched at an altitude of 2,500 meters in the heart of the majestic Trans-Ili Alatau mountains, the Big Almaty Lake dazzles with its turquoise waters. Born from the forces of an ancient earthquake, this natural wonder has become one of Almaty's most cherished symbols.
