Tamgaly Tas Petroglyphs & Nomad City

Tamgaly Tas is a unique open-air site where you can see ancient petroglyphs and Buddhist rock paintings dating back to the 17th century. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2004, it lies on the picturesque banks of the Ili River.

Just across the river, you will find Nomad City – a film set built in 2005 for the movie Nomad. Today it stands as an open-air museum, where visitors can step into the atmosphere of the medieval Kazakh steppes.
